Ice and Medicine at the end of the earth

18. Are there any ‘urban legends’ that are associated with the base? Ghost stories or other legends?

Laronne,

Good Question!  In the environment that I am living in, one would expect many urban legends and ghost stories circulating the base.  Prior to researching this question, I had not heard any stories.  In chatting with different people on base, there are the usual ghost stories that circulate about the Discovery Hut  where the Scott expedition stayed 100 years ago.  There also stories of Alien sightings and identification of Alien artifacts.  Nobody could recite the exact stories, however.  One legend I heard multiple times is that McMurdo, the south pole and the field camps are used as a hideaway for the witness protection program.  I have been unable to confirm or deny this.  If I hear better stories, I will update this post.

My crazy friend told me that up through WWII, some people believed that the earth was hollow. I can’t understand why anyone would think this, but maybe it’s interesting anyway? http://paranormal.about.com/od/hollowearth/a/aa022206.htm
    See any evidence??
